Packaging Development
Mapack's engineers design your packaging in CATIA V5, working from the 3D model or a physical sample of your product. Development covers product protection, transport optimisation, cost efficiency and environmental impact.

When Do You Need This?
New Product Launch
Starting series production of a new part calls for custom packaging.
Packaging Failure
When your current packaging does not protect the product adequately in transit.
Cost Reduction
Optimising existing packaging to cut material or logistics costs.
Change of Supplier
Sourcing a new supplier or ensuring audit compliance.
What We Offer
End-to-end packaging development: requirement analysis, 3D design in CATIA V5, prototype production on our CNC mill, and series manufacturing. We design both single-use and returnable packaging.
The Process
These stages build on one another, which is why involving us early is critical.

Request a quoteThe Full Process: From First Enquiry to Series Production
We join the process well before manufacturing begins, during the design phase. Working from a 3D visual design and thinking through the problem together with our partner, we help define the optimal packaging, so that you already have accurate cost figures and technical information at the quotation stage.
First Contact
Receiving the enquiry, assessing requirements, preliminary consultation.
3D Visual Design
We design the packaging solution in CATIA V5 based on the 3D model of your product, adapting proven solutions from earlier product types to the new item.
5-10 working daysIndicative Quotation
A detailed quotation supplemented with packaging and warehousing plans, so you can prepare an accurate cost calculation.
2-5 working daysSample Nest / Prototype Production
A physical sample to validate the design: fit, protection and handling are all checked.
10-15 working daysModifications if Needed
Fine-tuning based on the trial packaging and your feedback, where required.
Final Quotation
Once modifications are incorporated: final price, delivery terms and schedule.
Tool Manufacturing
Production of the thermoforming and CNC tooling for series manufacturing.
Series Production
Production start with four-point quality control: incoming goods, start-up, in-process and final product inspection.
15-20 working daysPacking, Order Picking, Delivery
Labelling, order picking and comb-type dividers fitted, with JIT supply where required.
2-5 working daysWhat We Need for a Quotation
- Product dimensions (3D file if available)
- Sensitive surfaces marked up
- Product weight and fragility
- Mode of transport and stacking pattern
- Quantity (annual, monthly or project volume)
- Single-use or returnable requirement
- ESD requirement, if any
- Parameters of the returnable loop
- End-user standards and specifications
What We Work From
From your 3D file, the packaging solutions used for earlier product types and your logistics information, we prepare 3D designs together with packaging and warehousing plans. There are three deliverables:
- Technical design - a 3D packaging design in CATIA V5
- Cost calculation - a detailed quotation with material and production costs
- Packing instruction - documentation ready to hand over to production
How Can We Help?
Partners usually come to us when they are preparing their own quotation or already producing samples, and have a specific packaging question or need samples. Co-operation can take three forms:
Fixed Concept
The end user has a specific packing instruction and we implement it.
Free Hand
We receive only the main parameters (single-use or returnable, crate size, pallet) and design the rest.
From Scratch
A new product with no precedent, for which we develop a complete packaging concept.
Common Misconceptions We Help Clear Up
Single-use vs. returnable
Single-use is cheaper to start with, but returnable is far more economical over time for regular shipments. We help you calculate which one pays off.
Internal vs. external dimensions
Packaging is designed around internal dimensions, the space that holds the product, not external ones. This is a frequent misunderstanding in enquiries.
How lead times stack up
Design, tooling, material procurement and production build on one another. The total project lead time is not the sum of the individual steps but the critical path.
